Feeding 1.5m children daily
Providing nutritious foods for more than 1.5m children daily.
That’s sound like a BHAG – big hairyaudacious goal. Yet Africa Improved Foodsin Rwanda has achieved that and so much more in just over two years ofoperations.
Not only that, they work with 24 000farmers, have created jobs for more than 300 people and significantly raisedfood production standards in the region.
I was privileged to interview Elvis Ngarambe, Human Resources Director at Africa Improved Foods. This was part of the GLOBAL research into Culture and drivers of culture.
Drivers of success
What are the drivers that helped this company transition from startup to overnight success ? There appear to be a few critical factors.
One is that they have a shared set ofvalues where each of the 6 values is broken into a few words that embody theideas. Elvis believes that the majorityof the team believe in the purpose and values of the organization. He said “Inthe sense that in less than two years, they have been able to be part of thegreat team that has developed a product that is being now used by around 1.5million infants every other day which is a great thing”
What struck me in the conversation was that many companies search for purpose and meaning. Something that sits above their vision and mission. This organization lives and breathes its purpose which is translated into real impact in the community.
Maximum Social, Economic and Environmental Impact
The website states that they seek to achieve “maximumsocial, economic and environmental impact in communities in which we operate.”
On a continent renowned for leadership challenges, corruption and exceedingly high levels of malnutrition it is truly amazing tosee success.
They have developed a simple set of values that simply states what they want to team to embody ?
How do your organizations achieve maximum social, economic and environmental impact in communities in which you operate ?
