Are we having fun yet ?
Are we having fun yet ?
Is your work FUN ? Do youhave a FUN workplace ?
Over all the interviews inmy GLOBAL (more than 25 countries and 70+ companies thus far) research intodrivers of CULTURE only two companies had FUN has a core value.
In fact one of the companies was blunt enough to say – “if you are not having fun – you should not be working here.
What is FUN ?
What is FUN and how do we embrace that as part of the core value and core culture. ?
Neither of the companies that explicitly listed FUN as a core value has offices in the style of Google with funky colours, bean bags and hockey tables. From that comes the next question – how much of the culture needs to be created by the team and how much can be created by the place.
The happiest place on earth ?
Disneyworld / Disneyland hadfor many years a slogan of being the “happiest place on earth”. If we look atthat for a moment and consider what would the Disney experience be like withoutthe people (in character). It would be a museum to all things that Disney hadcreated. I remember going to Disneyworld Orlando when my daughters were under10 years of age. The sheer delight and joy of interacting with princesses, fairies and ogres made the visit.
In order to embrace FUN asa core value it is all about the people. How much time is spent byorganizations working on the physical infrastructure without working on theculture ? A beautifully designedworkspace may house a toxic culture.
What are your priorities ?
Is a FUN culture in your future ?
